When I was 12 I desperately wanted to become an Astronaut – my fear of flying severely hampered that dream. But even if I loved flying and had got my pilot’s license at the age of 20, how likely is it that I could have become an Astronaut? The truth is not very likely.
So should we be providing careers information on ‘How to become an Astronaut’? We think not. Instead, we believe it to be far more beneficial to our users if we provide information on careers where there are actual job vacancies and therefore realistic opportunities. For instance, we provide information on the following careers:

Now becoming accomplished and skilled in either of these two job roles COULD lead one of our users to become an Astronaut one day – who knows? But we feel it is far more beneficial if we provide career, subject and university course information, tailored to help our users take realistic steps into the job market.
In order to keep our career titles up-to-date we use the very latest job vacancy data to inform our decisions. If there have been no vacancies in a particular career over a period of time, we will consider removing that career.
We also carefully review trends in job vacancy data in order to identify careers which we need to add – namely, careers with a large amount of vacancies which we currently don’t cover. Maybe a particular area or industry has undergone a recent surge in popularity for instance.
Using this latest vacancy data, we made an informed decision to add the following new career titles:
