One of the career areas I update is leather. This covers craft workers, such as saddlers, and the more technical side of things, which comes under the banner of leather technology.
A few weeks ago, I visited the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) based at the University of Northampton. If you want to work in the technological side of leather, this is where you go in the UK. Its reputation is worldwide, as I met and interviewed a lady who’d previously been working in New York and gave it all up to study leather in the UK.
My visit was arranged by Rachel Garwood, the director of the ICLT and she had some interesting things to say about employability in relation to the courses run by the institute.
